    Are Veterinarians Greedy?

I have had several pets in my life.  Dogs and cats always go to the vet, as do people.  I have recently begun to question the neccesity of doctors' visits for people and pets.  The vets, especially, disturb me.  You go in, they do all kinds of unneccessary stuff, like worm checks, and charge, what I think, is a lot of money.  I know they need to stay in business.  We need DVMs.  Emergencies come up and we NEED them.  Is there not a better way for them to stay in business than to have people bring their puppies and kittens in when it is not needed?  Yesterday I took our new puppy to Parkside Animal Hospital for a needed well exam.  There were many things pushed in my face, including, but not limited to, bringing in a stool sample.  Sorry.  I am not going to do that.  Those tests are inaccurated and I find it better to just worm my pets on a recomended schedule.  Not only that, the vet I saw refused to write a prescription for heart worm preventative.  She did not want me ordering it from another, less expensve source. It was greed.  She wanted me to buy it from her office.  What a load of bull.  I also like to give my own vaccines at home.  Many people do it.  There is a small risk but you can always take your pet in to the vet if there is a problem.  This vet insisted on scheduling our next visit with the vaccines.  Sorry lady, again, not going to do it.  Why don't we cut the greed?  Animals are our pets but they are also personal property, meaning that the OWNER makes the decisions about healthcare, not the pushy vet.  Switching vets ASAP.  If any of this sounds good to you and you live in Keller, check out their website to make your first appointment!  http://www.parksideanimalhospital.com/

Dr. Wigginton was who we saw.  She said the FDA wrote an article stating that mail order pet meds, like those from 1 800 Pet Meds, are 40% fake.  Come on lady.  The FDA does not even regulate pet products.  Quit lying and write me the stinkin prescrition!  I found the article.  The FDA likes to pokes it's nose in all over the place.  I did not see anything about 40% fake anywhere in this article.  http://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm048164.htm

Think how many dogs and cats that die in the shelter every day would be adopted if people knew they could take over part of their pet's care and save money?  Many people don't adopt because they do not think they can afford the vet bills.  Animal DIE every day because of this.  I think it is time the word gets out.  I don't want vets out of business.  Maybe some re structuring is needed though.
